Multi-jackbolt tensioners (MJT) distribute the high preload required for tightening large diameter bolts into manageable torques by screwing the jackbolts through the nut body.

Function of body is to absorb nut forces and it is manually screwed onto the thread of the bolt.

The tightening of the push screws generates a high force. Due to the small friction radii, low tightening torques are required.

Hardened washer protects surface from high stresses.

The thrust force of the many screws and the counter reaction force exerted by the bolt together generate a high clamping force.

The operating force of the bolt is equal to the sum of the thrust bolt forces. The stress on the bolt is tensile only.
